110 hired on the spot in June 12 job fair

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — a total of 110 job applicants successfully hurdled the requirements for hiring and were taken in by various employer-companies during the Region III Independence Day Job & Business Fair held here at the Harbor Point Ayala Mall on June 12.

According to the Manpower Services Division (MSD) of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority’s Labor Department, the new employees were hired on the spot (HOTS) from out of the 1,476 that qualified for various job openings offered in the fair.

Meanwhile, there were 1,456 “near hires”, or applicants who needed to submit some other requirements before being formally hired by employers, the MSD added.

A total of 3,820 job openings were announced during the fair by a total of 86 participating companies. These included 73 local companies, 6 overseas firms, and 7 national agencies.

The fair was organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in cooperation with the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) in Olongapo City, the SBMA, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Social Security System (SSS), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the local government of Olongapo City with help from the Harbor Point Ayala Mall.

The most number of job openings was announced by Wistron Infocomm (Phils.) Corp., which has recently announced the re-opening of its manufacturing facility in the Subic Bay Freeport. It offered 1,000 new positions to job-seekers.

The company needs 1,000 more production operators who are college or vocational levels or at least senior high school graduate, and are willing to work overtime and during weekends.

Wistron officials recently conducted examinations and interviews for applicants.

Meanwhile, the SBMA Labor Center’s MSD reminded jobseekers that it has opened its Receiving Section at the former Land Bank office near the Rizal Gate to receive and process job applications from the public.

The office is able to accommodate around 500 applications per day. — JONAS REYES
